Madison Park changes while staying the same

Three events happened in the ‘40s that changed the Madison Park lifestyle. The Depression was winding down, Hooverville was no more (homelessness became a nonissue) and last but by far not least: World War II began. It was the days of patches on the knees and hand-me-down clothes with the socks not matching most times.

Federal funding for gun violence research has been on the decline since the mid-'90s, but in the wake of multiple mass shootings in the past decade, nonprofits and grassroots organizations have stepped up to support comprehensive studies meant to inform life-saving policy. The newly formed Grandmothers Against Gun Violence Foundation is one such nonprofit working toward evidence-based solutions.

SDOT revises Madison BRT project cost, construction schedule

Federal Transit Authority recommends contingency funds, allowing more time for completion

SDOT reported on Friday the independent consultant hired by the FTA to review the project’s scope, schedule and risk recommended an additional $6.2 million to cover unexpected events during construction and to allow more time for project completion. That brings the project cost to $127.5 million.

Montlake Market has closed, the property deemed necessary for the Montlake Project portion of WSDOT’s SR-520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program. To fill the void, WSDOT has put out a request for proposal (RFP) to place either a small community market or food truck on a portion of the property

Seattle/King County Clinic returns next month

Free medical, dental, eye care being provided across Seattle Center campus

Seattle/King County Clinic organizers and volunteers are planning to serve more than 750 patients daily during next month’s four-day event. The clinic, which offers free medical, dental and eye care services for those in need, was pushed from last fall to Feb. 13-16 due to the need to relocate because of the Seattle Center arena rebuild. The clinic had operated out of the arena since 2014.

The Seattle City Council Select Committee on Campaign Finance Reform voted a bill out of committee on Jan. 7 that would prohibit foreign-influenced corporations from contributing to political campaigns and PACs, and another that would increase transparency in political advertising.
