The Pioneers hosting presentation on bootlegging in Seattle Saturday in Madison Park
The Pioneers and Humanities Washington invite the public to listen to guest speaker Steve Edmiston give a special presentation, “Whiskey and Wiretaps: The Northwest’s Rumrunning King,” from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Pioneer Hall, 1642 43rd Ave. E. in Madison Park. The event is free to attend. People can also watch via Zoom by registering at Pioneer Association of the State of Washington - Events (wapioneers.com).
During his presentation, Edmiston will talk about the downfall of Roy Olmstead’s reign as a prolific bootlegger in Seattle when he was arrested by federal agents on Thanksgiving Day in 1925. Edmiston will explore why Olmstead, the youngest Seattle Police Department lieutenant, formed a secret gang to head up Prohibition bootlegging in the Northwest, and other questions during his presentation.
Edmiston is a business and entertainment lawyer with Bracepoint Law, an independent film screenwriter and producer, founder of Quadrant45 and co-founder of The Good Bootlegger’s Guild.
Following Edmiston, Pioneer member Robert Foxcurran will share his family story.
Pioneer Association of the State of Washington and the Pioneers are also hosting a public open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Pioneer Hall museum.
